BRANCH 255 WINDSOR
"WE STRIVE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF VETERANS
AND TO SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY".
On August 10 Parkwood Hospital and it's various veteran support groups put on the Summer Carnival.
There were 80-100 volunteers with Branch 255 represented by four members. Jim Dunn, Zone A-1 Commander, Susan McAree, Secretary, Jim McAree, Mike Smith, Membership / Parkwood. The vets were brought from their rooms by many of the volunteers and some family members and enjoyed various carnival games, such as Crown and Anchor, Plinko and others. It was also very comforting seeing the number of young family members that were visiting with grand and great-grandparents. RCL 255 supports three veterans at Parkwood and George Staffen 96 yrs was in attendance.
What is OP VETBUILD?
Operation VetBuild is a peer to peer support program organized and implemented by Veterans for Veterans .
The program is run through the Royal Canadian Legion OSI Special Section, commonly known as BSL Legion OSI.
The program is hosted in Legion Branches across Canada and is 100% free to Veterans.
The objective is to incorporate hobby as a means of assisting Veterans to alleviate the symptoms commonly associated with OSIs and PTSD. The incorporation of hobby in a social atmosphere will give Veterans the opportunity to meet other Veterans in their area while working through their projects to provide mutual support and comradeship.
The RIVERSIDE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION BRANCH 255 is honored to be the first legion in Windsor to offer
OP VETBUILD thanks to Roger Miner.
